General Information


Ride description: This 1200km ride starts east of the suburban area of Toronto, Ontario.  Leaving Oshawa, you will ride to the north and west of the region heading to Victoria Harbour for the first nights break (or riders may continue at their own pace). This region is cottage country and contains many scenic areas as well as a number of challenging climbs. On the second day of the ride you will be heading towards Bancroft, a small town deep in the Ontario wilderness. Heading out of the Bancroft area you will touch the highest point in Ontario at "the Foymont Hill". You will then begin your loop back through central Ontario to such places as Sharbot Lake and Quadville, while stopping at Napanee area for the evening and recharge with a meal. The last section of the ride takes you along the shores of Lake Ontario, then heads north into a section of rolling hills. The ride concludes back in Oshawa.

Elevation: 28000 to 29000 feet (route details to be finalized).

Date: August 13-16, 2009

Start time: 5:00 am

Location: The ride will start in Oshawa at Durham College, which is east of Toronto. 

Rider Limit: 50 riders and there are still position open.

Safety requirements:  Standard equipment as used on all brevets. Helmet, lights (front and back) and reflective vest or sash

Qualifications: In order to qualify for the Granite Anvil, riders must complete one full series in the year of the event.

Cost: $350.00 CDN.

Registration: Pre-register with your intent to ride and then download the waiver form and send it to Randonneurs Ontario along with a money order for the fee.

Registration includes:

- Pre-ride breakfast buffet
- Accommodations at 3 overnight controls
- Drop bag at each location
- A complete meal at each of the overnight controls
- Post-ride dinner
- Light snacks will be available at the intermediate controls, however, you will be responsible for your own meals in between the overnight controls.



Moon Phase: The moon is 1/2 to 1/4 phase during the ride.

Can-Am Challenge:
Randonneurs who complete a 1200 km brevet in the same year in Canada and the USA, are awarded the Can-Am challenge medal. Contact the organizers for more information. Please note this will be the only event in Canada for 2009, that will qualify for the Can-Am Challenge.
