About

Brief Ride Description

The Granite Anvil 2022 will start on August 25, 2022 from the Days Inn downtown Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The route runs from Ottawa to Bancroft on Day 1, loops back to Bancroft on Days 2 & 3, and returns to Ottawa on Day 4.

The Final route:

• Collection contains all four days as separate files.

• Day 1 Ottawa-Bancroft 360km (+2500m)
• Day 2 Bancroft-Baysville-Bancroft 346km (+3980m)
• Day 3 Bancroft-Quadville-Bancroft 255km (+3480m)
• Day 4 Bancroft-Ottawa 257km (+2500m)

Fees

All fees are in Canadian dollars (CAD). For a rough conversion to USD, multiply by .8.

The ride fee of $650 includes:

• breakfast before the start on Days 1-4
• dinner Days 1-3
• overnight accommodation on a shared room basis for nights 1, 2 and 3
• overnight accommodation on a shared room basis for nights 1, 2 and 3
• some snacks & liquids at selected Controls during the riding days
• food and drink at the end of the ride in Ottawa
• t-shirt or hoodie and finishers medal

In addition, non Randonneurs Ontario members must register as Trial Randonneurs Ontario members and pay the Ontario Cycling Association membership fee of $48 CAD. The OCA membership is required for insurance and the waiver will be signed during that registration.

Rooms in Ottawa before and after the ride are NOT included in the entry fee. Those are optional, again on a shared basis, @ $70 per night. We have a block of rooms that we'll be holding for riders who select that option.

Single rooms in Ottawa and Bancroft MAY be available, depending on the number of ride registrants. A single room in Bancroft would add $300 to the ride registration. A single room in Ottawa would be an additional $70 per night over the price of a shared room.

Payment

The payment schedule is as follows:

• $100 - due within 48 hours of registration
• $550 - due by February 28
• Payment for Ottawa rooms - due by June 30

Non timely payment of any fees will generate a cancellation.

• Payments from Canadian riders are made using e-transfers or the CCN website.
• Payments from non Canadian riders are made using Zelle or the CCN website.
• Processing charges and taxes from the CCN website are the responsibility of the rider.
• Payment details to follow registration.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation policy is as follows:

• $0- cancel up to February 28, i.e. no refund of the initial $100
• $500 - cancel up to April 30, having paid the entire registration fee
• $300 - cancel up to June 30, having paid the entire registration fee
• $0 - cancel after June 30

The cancellation policy is subject to revision should there be Covid travel restrictions e.g. border closures, not simply "do not travel" recommendations.

Pre-rides

As in prior years, we will have two pre-rides, taking place 2 weeks and 1 week in advance. These will be lightly supported, e.g. drop bags, and the cost per rider will be adjusted accordingly. For the most part pre-riders will ride together. If you are interested in participating in a pre-ride, you can indicate that on the registration form.

Support

• The ride will be fully supported at the overnight Controls with motel accommodations and hot/cold and meatless food selections.
• One drop bag will be transported from Ottawa to Bancroft.
• Intermediate controls will be staffed with volunteers and/or utilize 24x7 establishments.
• On the ride mechanical and "cleanup" support will also be provided.
• Support for riders well ahead of the main group, riding through the overnight Controls, may be limited.
• Of course any rider arriving prior to a Control's official open time will have to wait to have their Control card stamped.

FAQ

Will GPS files be available?   Yes, GPS files will be available and updated with all the latest route changes.

Do I need to qualify ?   For the Granite Anvil 2022, no qualifying rides are required, per se. Have you completed a 1200k before? Have you completed a recent SR (200, 300, 400, 600) series? Make sure that you know what you are getting into! There is no such thing as an easy 1200k and the Granite Anvil is no exception.

Will you offer it as a 1000k + 200k option for those wanting to earn the ACP's Randonneur 5000 medal?   Yes.

• Most convenient airport to fly in is Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport (YOW). Bus, Taxi and Ride Share option will get you to your accommodations.
• Approximate taxi fee from Ottawa airport to Days Inn (start hotel) is $40.00Cdn.
• Drive time from Toronto to Ottawa approximately 4.5 hours.
• Drive time from Montréal to Ottawa approximately 2.25 hours.
